Missing, not missed

Three years ago, when a black man was elected president of the United States on a platform of change and then started to effect it, the Internet was infested with posters reciting the words of Thomas Jefferson: “The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.”

That “rebellion” began as a fully funded campaign arm of the Koch brothers, sweeping up nostalgia sufferers and those with unexamined lives along in the smells of Astroturf and tea. Now that there are the stirrings of a true rebellion, on Wall Street, in Oakland, in London and Sydney, against the tyrants like the Koch brothers, who are bleeding the world pale to pay for their opulence, it is an unsurprising oddity that those calls to refresh the tree of liberty have gone silent.
